You must restart the system after any change in the registry or the Pagefile except for VMware Snapshots of Suspend State. The Non Makeable Interruption is not enabled by default on a Windows Operating System, create the following registry entry to enable it. I got this from GFI Support and it seems to be the fix, "If you are still attempting to collect a crash dump for this issue you may stop this process at this point. We were able to collect crash dump from several customers that helped us to identify an issue with a detection in our definitions. We released a fix by definitions update early this morning to correct this issue. I put a script in the VM that reboots it nightly at 3AM.
This has taken care of approx. Now the only time it does it is when some app decides it needs to eat all the RAM. I'm actually building up a R2 Terminal Server VM right now to replace it, for this and several other reasons.
I'm not sure if VMware is completely patched, my guess would be no. I have very little experience with VMware and how to patch it. Do you have a deep scan set to run? Might want to turn off the scanning and patching for a week and test the theory. I've seen this before. In my case users were simply having multiple sessions "hang" due to not logging out properly.
I logged into Remote Destop Services Manager and killed the hung sessions. Once this occured I did not have to reboot or power down.
I have it set up to only allow one session per user. So it is possible that they aren't properly logging off and closing their sessions but they can't have multiple. The next time it happens I will try to kill all open sessions though to see if it helps. I have found a couple patches that need to be installed for VMware so I will try that tonight and see how it goes. I was able to check VMware Tools and they are the current version according to vCenter server.
UbiquiTech is an IT service provider. I had two workstations lock up on me yesterday, requiring a hard boot to get the employees working again. Thanks Va, My test server has "hung" twice today so I'll be applying soon as I can kick the users off it. This is with ten users actively running on the server.
