Different stakeholders may require different status reports at different times. All of the Gantt bars in my schedule should have progress shown through to the status date line.
Thank you all for the kind remarks and additions, Erik. Your advice is really the key basis to start with. No need to start doing complicated reports and computation if the project is not up to date. This could lead to data misinterpretation such as EV as Mark mentionned. If the Move start of remaining parts before status date forward to status date check box is selected, you can also select the And move end of completed parts forward to status date check box.
With both check boxes selected, Project moves the entire task around the status date, to show that work was done on the task and completed as of the status date and that remaining work is continuing as of the status date:. These settings are particularly useful when you want to see "ahead of schedule" progress lines. They're also useful for changing how earned value is accrued. If you change these settings, Project does not move the actual or remaining work at all; work remains where it was originally scheduled, even if you report that the work was completed several weeks earlier than scheduled.
Note: These settings do not control the placement of actual and remaining work when you track progress by entering actual work by time period. I have a macro that uses Organizer to copy all custom fields, groups, views and filters in a master schedule to all subprojects. It works well in Project , but in Project , VBA for Project uses the original field name, not renamed field names, possibly so that fields already in use have some protection.
If you aren't worried about keeping track of your UIDs, then the easiest solution may be to create a template containing all your structure. I haven't tried this, so make a backup of all your files, open all subprojects, then, for each subproject, copy start and finish dates to unused date fields, select the upper left corner of the tabular area to select all tasks, then copy and paste the tasks.
If you are using Outline Code fields, be sure that the template contains all of the lookup table values you need. You don't need to worry about using the same table in the subproject file and the template because you are copying all data. Verify that the dates haven't changed, then close the original subproject and save the template using the exact same file name and path as the original subproject.
Repeat for each subproject. Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro? Sign in.
